HOW TO TEACH A CAT TO WALK ON A LEASH
To give your cat the excitement of outside without the dangers -teach them to walk on a leash. Cat owners know that letting their cat outside without supervision is not a good idea. So lets train him to be on a leash to join you outside.
Training steps:
1. Get your cat used to wearing the harness indoors. Put it on him for short periods of time. Use a harness because the majority of cats can slip out of a collar.
2. When he is used to the harness, tie a rope, cord, small lead on it and let her drag it until she is used to the pull. He may try to run from it or play with it.
3. Once he is comfortable with this, attach a small lead to the harness and hold it.
4. The day to start outside is a quiet, calm day. Any new sounds, smells, sights, and movements may frighten him. Please be sure to have a grip on the lead.
5. At first he will lead you. Take treats and give him one when she goes with you. You may give a command - walk. Be consistent! Be patient!
Now, you can have a safe, enjoyable time outside with your cat. (tips from Doctors Foster and Smith)
